Application of cross-functional teams in product evaluation

Use of cross-functional teams is critical in ensuring the success of the acquisition process. For instance, the various internal customers who will interact with the suppliers products or services, need to be involved to ensure that the supplier’s offer meets their specific needs (Biel, 2009). Failure to involve such suppliers could result into resistance and slow integration of the supplier systems into the buyer systems thus reducing the level of benefits that arise from the contracting of such a supplier. Additionally, such cross-functional teams provide different perspectives on the aspects that the supplier needs to meet, thus ensuring that the supplier-evaluation process reveals the actual competence of the supplier in aligning to the buyer organization’s goals (Biel, 2009)


The Transformation of the supply chain into a value-adding function of the business has necessitated the formation of effective collaborations with suppliers to enhance the value for the customer. This paper reviews the acquisition process to highlight concepts that enhance the entity’s capability to meet its goals through the facilitation of the purchasing and supply process. Concerning system development aspects, the focus need to be on integrating the systems of the supplier and those of the buyer organization to enhance communication throughout the supply chain. In the supplier selection process, the aspects of identification, contractual terms, negotiation, evaluation of the supplier, award and monitoring were found to bear significance to the outcome of the contract.
