To understand how human rights NGOs work we need to go beyond their own descriptions of what they do.’ Critically discuss
The work of human rights NGO is not only governed by their stated mission and vision but by the human rights conventions that have been developed over the years. Although, the mission statements of human rights NGOs help to highlight the specific purpose of individual NGO, it is critical to evaluate other external human rights provisions to identify whether such mission statements align to these provision. As shall be discussed subsequently, therefore, for a comprehensive understanding of the work of human rights NGOs, one needs not only to consider their mission statements but also the other conventions that have been developed over time concerning the human rights’ components that the NGO focuses on.
