Who is responsible for employees’ motivation at work

Theories about motivation have changed with time, with each presenting a new approach through which employees are motivated. From Taylor’s scientific management approach through Mayo’s human relations theory and Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theory, to modern theories such as the expectancy theory, researchers have embarked on a quest to find out how best to motivate workers.  In contemporary organizations, however, challenges arise concerning how to motivate workers especially where the workers are located in different geographical areas. As contended in the essay that follows, employee motivation has now become more of encouraging intrinsic motivation to enhance effect.
